About Me
I have always been a bookworm, which is probably one reason why I majored in English. My mother told me that I always had a book in my hand and I remember in elementary school on our trips to the library I was always the last one to line up and to check out my books.
I am a voracious reader and tend to spend entirely too much time and money in the bookstore. I have an iPad, which became my buddy when I returned to school — the less bulk I had to carry the better. I still much prefer to hold a book in my hand than read it on a computer.
About The Broken Spine
The Broken Spine actually was my brain child for a book club. It got off to a pretty good start, but then unfortunately dissipated due to people’s schedules. Even so, that has not stopped me from reading, but what it has stopped to some degree is discussing books with others.
I decide to start The Broken Spine blog in order to share my thoughts on the books I’ve read, I’m reading, or contemplating reading. Please feel free to make suggestions as I’m always looking for new books. And most importantly, please feel free share your thoughts.
So Why This Blog?
I love to read. I love to write. I love to critique. I love to explore new literature and rediscover the classics. I also started this blog because I wanted to take an opportunity to write about literature in a non-critical way. As an English major, you’re trained to critically interpret and write about literature and I wanted to take a step back and read just for pleasure. It’s highly unlikely I will be able to throw all those years of training out the window, but I’m definitely going to try and give a less critical or rather less academic critique and analysis of the literature I read.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I see that we have one very big thing in common, books! I love books, reading and I too would rather hold a book than read on an electronic device. I do have to say that your blog title through me as I though you had an actual broken spine. Looking forward to your blog.

Now there’s a story for you. I hate to hear the spine of a book being cracked. It’s like nails on a chalkboard. So, for the most part the name came from that. The other part is that I’m a sense my spine is kind of broken. I have scoliosis and a herniated disk in the worst part of the curve, which caused me to have surgery because the disk was in the process of severing my spinal cord. So, The Broken Spine it was. I guess now I have to update my About page with this. ☺

I really like your about page, but I did notice you were missing a word in this sentence: “My mother told me that I always had a book in my and I remember in elementary school on our trips”. I’m in blogging 101 and I saw your comment about making a strong about page, so I decided to check yours out. It’s very well done!

Thanks Juliette. Sometimes no matter how many times you read something you always miss something.

Your ‘about’ page reads well. Readers will know exactly what your blog is about and why you like to blog. I love reading too and am in a Book Club. We meet at different houses to discuss the latest book over wine and nibblies. I usually discuss our Book Club books on my blog too. We are yet to chose a book this year and start back up again.

“I have always been a bookworm, which is probably one reason why I majored in English.” I’m a bookworm too, and that’s exactly why I didn’t major in English. Go figure.

Hey there Newbie Spikey!
(for your info, a Spikey is the term for folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂
Been away for a while, but now I wanted to catch up and say “thank you… I really appreciate your ‘follow’ as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.”
Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.
I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.
Thanks again and hope you have a great day…
