The Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted over at Freda’s Voice. The rules are simple and go something like this.
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
3. Find any sentence, (or a few, just don’t spoil it)
4. Post it.
5. Add the post url, not your blog url to the Linky.
6. Tweet it #Friday56 (not an official Freda’s Voice rule)
Akwaeke Emezi is the author of Freshwater and PET is their debut young adult novel. It’s a little more hard hitting than I thought it would be, but I’m really enjoying it. The long and the short of it: How do you save the world from monsters if no one will admit they exist?
“We think we’re so strong,” he explained. “Some people want to show how strong they are when they fight, they want to prove it by grinding the other person down.”
“We’re alive because we can be hurt; we’re alive because we can heal.”
PET pg. 57
Have you read it? If so, what did you think?
I really enjoyed Pet—it’s definitely a unique read.

I should get back into doing this meme; I’d forgotten about it. Have a great weekend!

Oh, I read this! That’s a great snippet. I didn’t quite love the book (though I did enjoy it just the same), but I did love the idea and thought it was super unique!

I understand. I’m about halfway through and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I am enjoying it, but there is something that is preventing me from loving it. Hopefully by the end I will have figured it out.
