WWW Wednesday

I’ve seen this meme floating around and may do it from time-to-time. There are quite a few things I’ve enjoyed reading or am enjoying, so I thought I’d share.

Like I said WWW Wednesday is meme and it’s hosted by Taking on a World Words. The premise is super simple.  All you have to do is answer three questions

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

I mean really it can’t get any easier than this, right?

What are you currently reading?

Title: Juliet Takes a Breath
Author: Gabby Rivera
Format: Paperback
Genre: LGBT YA, Feminism
Publisher: Riverdale Avenue Books
Release Date: January 27, 2016

Initial Thoughts: I have a feeling this is going to be an emotional roller coaster, which I’m not sure how I feel about that. Primarily because I’m not an emotional person.

I’ve only read the Preface, but oh my. If the rest of the book is anything like this, then I’m all in. The Preface is an email Juliet wrote to someone named Harlowe. Apparently, she wrote a book that Juliet loves pulling out on the train to make folks feel uncomfortable called Raging Flower: Empowering Your Pussy by Empowering Your Mind

Title: Recursion
Author: Blake Ceouch
Format: eARC
Genre: Science Fiction, Thriller
Publisher: Crown Publishing Group
Release Date: June 11, 2019

Initial Thoughts: I was excited to find out that Blake Crouch had another novel coming out because I really enjoyed Dark Matter. I’ve only read the first chapter and it’s captured my attention. I think it’s going to be a little slower paced only because it seems like he’s not using a lot of short sentences.

In Chapter 1, we’ve already encountered a crisis and a detective is trying to talk someone off a ledge. Unfortunately he fails. The reader is also introduced to something called False Memory Syndrome (FMS), which sounds like it’s contagious. I don’t know it’s kind of wild already.

Title: Washington Black
Author: Esi Edugyan
Format: Paperback
Genre: Historical Fiction
Publisher: Knopf
Release Date: August 2, 2018

My Thoughts: I read this for book club. We actually just discussed it this past Sunday. And, I have mixed feelings about it. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. It really was just meh. The first 1/4 was great, but then there was a shift and not a subtle one either, that just made the book drag.

And by the way friends this cover is soooo misleading. The cover makes you think that Wash (Washington Black) is going on some grand & beautiful adventure, and that is far from the reality of this book. Yes there is a somewhat grand adventure, but it’s far from beautiful.

Title: Bingo Love
Author: Tee Franklin
Format: Paperback
Genre: LGBT Graphic Novel
Publisher: Image Comics
Release Date: February 20, 2018

[Read | Skim] [Buy | Borrow]

You can find my review HERE. I love it and I didn’t hate it. There were a lot of unaswered questions for me. I later found out that there is a jetpack that  answers a lot of the questions I have. We shall see. My library system doesn’t have it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Title: An Unkindness of Ghosts
Author: Rivers Solomon
Format: Paperback
Genre: LGBT Science Fiction
Publisher: Akashic Books
Release Date: September 18th 2017

I picked this up a couple of months ago and never got aroundrd to reading it for one reason or another. But since it’s Pride Month and the author is transgender, I thought what better time to read it.

Have you read any of these books, if so what did you think? And of course, please feel free to share what you’re reading / what’s on your TBR / what you just finished reading.

I really liked Juliet Takes a Breath. It was really effervescent and earnest in a way I haven’t encountered in contemporary fiction.

Hey, this is a nice meme, maybe I’ll steal it. (Maybe I should just write some of the many posts I’m supposed to be writing and am not.)

I think I bought Bingo Love for work (that is, the library collection), but haven’t read it yet — I didn’t see it come through. Sounds like Juliet would be a good purchase too. It’s not that I read everything I buy (ha, impossible), but that’s how my brain categorizes everything…

I haven’t heard of Juliet Takes A Breath, but it sounds like quite a read! I’ll have to look into it. I look forward to seeing what you think of An Unkindness of Ghosts. I’ve been wanting to read it. Happy reading!
