☕️Weekend Coffee Share☕️

If we were having coffee, I’d tell that this is my first coffee share on this blog. I have three blogs and two are currently inactive (20/20 Hines Sight and Inkslinger) and not because I don’t have any material. These past 12 months have been a roller coaster for me and they have taken a toll on me mentally, emotionally, and physically.

If we were having coffee, I would give the abbreviated version of the last 12 months. If you follow me over at 20/20 Hines Sight you may (or may not) remember that this time last year I fell down and went boom walking to work. And that my friends was the beginning of the downward spiral. So, here we go. Take a deep breath and buckle up.

August – Fell on my daily walk to work. Three months in I went for an MRI because my doctor finally gave in to my nagging him or as he would like to say, “I think you may have torn ligaments and/or tendons.” Yepper dude, I’ve been saying that for how long now? Hmmm

So, guess what my MRI showed. No, go ahead guess. If you guessed torn ligaments, slap yourself a high five. If you guessed torn tendons, slap yourself a high five. If you guessed both, You’re a freakin’ rock star.

November – My mom was supposed to come out Denver for Thanksgiving, but instead got hit head on by a cement truck. See below

Yep oh my fucking gosh! But what’s amazing is that she survived with only a shattered knee.

And, the upside I started dating someone

December – I had surgery to repair my ligaments and tendons

January – I was laid off. No need to be sorry. It wasn’t my dream job and I was looking to move on anyway. I just hadn’t come up with a plan. The good thing is I got three months of severance

April – My mom had a heart attack

June – My grandma had a stroke

July – My grandma passed and two days later my boyfriend broke up with me citing, “We’re in a rut.” What a fucking dick.

Fast forward to the future

September – If I haven’t found a job by this time, I’ll be moving back to Maryland. It’s not what I want to do, but financially it’s the best thing. I’ll be moving in with my parents to save what savings I have left.

Whew. I know that was a lot. Let’s take a moment. And quite frankly, I think that’s enough.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that because of all of the above I decided to focus on this blog. Reading. Escaping my everyday shinanigans and trying to make some sense out of all that has happened and is happening. I also decided to take up the flute again. These are just two things that make me happy.

If we were having coffee, I’d say thank you for your ear and your shoulder.

If we were having coffee, I invite you to vote on the books I read in August.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I want to know what you’ve been up to. It’s been so long since we’ve had coffee. What plans do you have for the rest of the summer? Going anywhere? Reading anything?

The picture of that car is just… I’m glad she only had the shattered knee – that’s bad enough, but that car just looks awful! Scary. I’m sorry she had a heart attack a few months later. I hope she’s doing better.

Sounds like a rotten year. Sorry, that was the understatement of the year, wasn’t it? I hope good things start happening soon. And that you can stay in Colorado.

Thinking of Colorado, I’ll be out there for a few days in a couple of weeks. It’s been about 10 years since I’ve visited and the last three times I was there was during the winter.

I hope you have a good week. And keep playing your flute 😉 I hope your lesson went well.

Thanks, Trent! I will admit rotten is an understatement. As I said to someone else, it’s been a pretty craptastic year. And, indeed I can’t wait for it to get better. I hope it’s on the horizon soon.

She’s doing fine. She’s pretty much back to her crotchety self, but rehab is going slowly and she’s sick of depending on others to get her around. She’s already talking about her next car and the doctor said it will probably be another year before she can drive. I told her she needs to learn to drive like she’s driving a manual. Where she uses her right foot for the gas and the left foot for the break.

When I went home for my grandma’s funeral my mom was getting around without her cane, but still rather precariously.

I’ love to stay in Colorada; but at the same time, I want to go back home. Just for the up close support from family and friends.

What part of Colorado are you going to be in?

My flute lesson went well. I’m excited. It’s such a stress reliever even if I’m only playing A, B, C, and G. I can’t wait to play more advanced stuff.

We’re going to be “centered” in Denver – we’re staying with a friend of my wife’s, but we’ll be out in the mountains a couple of days and in Boulder a day. I think we’ll actually be in Denver only one day.
